All in one day, a lot has changed. A guy in Thousand Oaks was parting out a 1978 Westy burn-victim. Bad fuel lines caused an engine fire that took it out. With a blow torch and a sawzall they began chopping it all up for scrap. Luckly the doors had been removed by taking out the bolts. I got the two front doors for $50 ($25 each!) I am still not sure how they will fit, but I think they will bolt right in. I will do it in the morning. When I got home
Then I saw the side slider door and asked about THAT. He said if I give him $25 for it, he’s done with the parting-out and I can take anything I want. So, here’s the list of additional stuff I was able to unbolt…
- Windshield wiper motor
- Wiper Arms
- Windshield Washer reservoir
- Side camper style window with 3 horizontal panels
- Z-fold rear seat hinges
- Emergency Brake handle and apparatus
- Headlights & chrome covers
- Misc nuts bolts and screws
- Misc dash knobs
So, here are some new photos…
- Remind me to change out the fuel lines ASAP

This is fun. I loved rebuilding my old jeep years ago, so I wish you as much satisfaction with this. Good times!
Hey Rich, if you haven’t done it already, check the drain holes on the bottom of each door. Pop off the inner panel and with a dry old tooth brush, scrub the bottom of the inner panel and use a shop vac to take up the debris. Clogged drain holes and worn seal are the main cause of most old auto doors getting rust bubbles.
It’s looking good.
Thanks Robin. I already took a long brush and a vacuum to get out all the old debris. The drains were indeed clogged. All better now.
