Here is a lovely poem/blessing called Beannacht that I recited at the end of Dad’s memorial service.

On the day when
the weight deadens
on your shoulders
and you stumble,
may the clay dance
to balance you.
the weight deadens
on your shoulders
and you stumble,
may the clay dance
to balance you.
And when your eyes
freeze behind
the gray window
and the ghost of loss
gets in to you,
may a flock of colors,
indigo, red, green,
and azure blue
come to awaken in you
a meadow of delight.
freeze behind
the gray window
and the ghost of loss
gets in to you,
may a flock of colors,
indigo, red, green,
and azure blue
come to awaken in you
a meadow of delight.
When the canvas frays
in the currach of thought
and a stain of ocean
blackens beneath you,
may there come across the waters
a path of yellow moonlight
to bring you safely home.
in the currach of thought
and a stain of ocean
blackens beneath you,
may there come across the waters
a path of yellow moonlight
to bring you safely home.
May the nourishment of the earth be yours,
may the clarity of light be yours,
may the fluency of the ocean be yours,
may the protection of the ancestors be yours.
may the clarity of light be yours,
may the fluency of the ocean be yours,
may the protection of the ancestors be yours.
And so may a slow
wind work these words
of love around you,
an invisible cloak
to mind your life.

“It is strange to be here…the mystery never leaves me…..”(approximate quote from AC) I am so surprised to bump into your blog…I too LOVE John O’Donohue…I ‘met’ him on SoF a few months ago and listen to him at least 2-3 times a week on my ipod….I never tire of it. He is such a Light of Love, Compassion, deep deep soulful understanding humanity’s beautiful spark of divinity within….I can not find words to describe…..
Is Anam Cara your favorite of his books? or Which would you suggest? and do you have any other Celtic ‘Mystics’ to recommend?
